The Perrysburg JV
squad knew that Friday, January 8th would be a tough
test of just how good they really were! Going into
the night, Perrysburg's undefeated record would be
significantly challenged by the one-loss Anthony
Wayne team. Just as they have done all season, the
Lady Jackets jumped out with an early lead in the
first quarter. Quick pressure defense and a patient
offense gave the Jackets a 11-4 first quarter lead.
Anthony Wayne fought back in the 2nd quarter,
playing evenly with Perrysburg to end the half with
a 17-10 deficit. The Jackets started the second half
with more pressure, but a determined General team
overcame some early game difficulties and advanced
the ball. Perrysburg found themselves in unfamiliar
basketball territory, throwing the ball away more
than usual in the second half.
Coach DeMars put a
quick end to the struggles with high 4th quarter
expectations. The Lady Jackets rallied together to
find that familiar flow to their offense and
aggressive defense to pull away from the Lady
Generals for a hard-earned 39-27 win. Becca Tudor
had a big scoring night with 14 points and Kelsey
Draper added 9 points to the end score.
When asked about the
performance of his Perrysburg JV team, Coach DeMars
felt that the team's strengths were “playing hard
and good full court pressure.” He felt that
Perrysburg “needs to do a better job taking care of
the ball.” But DeMars quickly added, “Anytime you
play hard and beat AW, it is a GREAT win!” |
