*** Freshman Game Summary ***
Perrysburg 34, Springfield 17 - 2/18/2010
By: Dean Scheckelhoff

The freshmen girls met up with the Springfield Blue Devils to wrap up their NLL league play and to finish their season. This game was postponed from the 9th due to bad weather. This past Tuesday the JV and Varsity played BG but the freshmen had to watch since BG did not house a freshman team this year.

The girls started out in a full court press falling back into a man to man defense as Springfield played a zone half court defense. The jackets started out with some good defensive possessions, a couple of good steals and some good offensive possessions but the 2 week layoff played havoc on their ability to put the ball in the hole thus the first quarter results were Jackets 9 Springfield 0.

The second quarter started out with Springfield hitting a 3 but the jackets responded with a 3 and then dominated the quarter. The remaining time in the quarter was much of the same as first with the Jackets getting numerous shots at the basket but being rewarded on just a few thus leading to a 19 to 6 lead at the half time buzzer.

I cannot say much about the 3rd and 4th quarters but that is was pretty much the same as the first half. It was very apparent from the start that the Springfield girl’s ability was not at the level as the Jackets. It doesn’t get much better than seeing all the girls get playing time the last game of a fine season. Third quarter score was 25-11 and the final was 34-17.
What a great season girls, job well done, we are all proud of you.

Final record 17-2 overall and 9-1 in the NLL

After the game Coach Derr presented the girls a NLL champs t-shirt and the girls were able to cut down a net in the balcony, both items gave the girls a sense of accomplishment and a goal to repeat next year.
I’m sure the girls and parents agree with me when I say Thank You Coach Derr.
