Friday, December 18th
was a game that the Freshman girls would like to
have back losing in overtime on a last second shot.
From the opening tip, Syndney Scheckelhoff grabbed
the rebound and passed to an open Chloe Buehler for
a quick 2-0 lead. Neither team could get into much
of an offensive rhythm in the first quarter. Chloe
added another basket and Southview got onto the
board giving Perrysburg a 4-2 lead after the first
quarter. Both teams settled into their game in the
second quarter with Perrysburg playing stingy
defense creating many turnovers. Syndney scored on
nice pass from Lindsey Smith making the score 6-2
and the off a made basket by Southview, Perrysburg
broke the press and found an open Chloe Buehler for
an easy basket giving Perrysburg a 9-5 lead at the
half.
The second half proved to be exciting with
Perrysburg grabbing leads in each quarter only to
have Southview whittle their way back into the
contest. With seven seconds remaining and Perrysburg
holding onto a one point lead 17-16, Southview in
bounded the ball and the guard drove hard to the
lane creating a foul getting two free throws. After
she missed the first free throw, Southview sank the
second causing the game to go into overtime with the
score tied 17-17. Each team traded baskets and with
two seconds remaining on the clock, Southview
received the ball at the top of the circle and
heaved the ball to the basket only to see it swish
with no time remaining giving Southview a 23-20
victory over Perrysburg.
