The freshman girls playing back to
back games for the first time are looking to redeem
themselves from the harsh loss from Central Catholic
yesterday.
The Jackets started out in a full court man to man
defense against Clays 1-2-1-1 full court press
falling back into a man to man defense. Perrysburg
got the tip the girls set up the offense ran it well
for a score by Smith. Clay turned around to an
unsuccessful offensive try just to have Perrysburg
come down court and have Dunphy hit a 3. Now with
3:00 left in the quarter Clay finally got their
first 2 points but Poll responded with a 2 pointer
at the other end. Clay got the ball down court to
another unsuccessful offensive try and Perrysburg
answered with a well run offensive possession which
set up Buehler for 2 with 10 seconds on the clock
and the end of the quarter with Perrysburg up 9-2.
The second quarter started with the Jackets in a
full court press falling back into a 2-3 zone
against the Clay's 1-2-1-1 full court press and man
to man defense. Clay started the quarter with a very
patient offensive possession but leading to a
turnover, then Perrysburg broke the press for
Whitacre to score with 4:30 on the clock. As both
teams exchange possessions they also rotated in some
fresh legs. With 47 seconds left Clay was fouled and
made 1 of 2 Perrysburg had a turnover and Clay was
fouled again but missed both to end the half

Both teams started the second half with a full court
press and man to man defense. Perrysburg worked the
clock for the first minute ending in a turnover,
then both teams exchanged possessions a couple of
times till the 2 minute mark where Clay hit for 2.
Perry responded with 2 on the other end and Whitacre
hit for 2 off the inbounds steal. Clay had a
turnover and with 1:00 on the clock Perrysburg
passed the ball 4 times before it hit the ground to
break the press and Perry hit for 2 to end the
quarter Perrysburg 18 Clay 6.
The fourth quarter started with both team in the
same defenses, Perrysburg’s first possession ended
with Smith hitting for 2. Clay came down patiently
ran their offense but Perrysburg’s pressure defense
caused a turnover. Again as both teams exchange
possessions as they rotated in some fresh legs. At
the 3:00 mark Perrysburg ran the backdoor play and
Dunphy, wide open scored. Then with 2:30 on the
clock Clay was fouled, made the bucket but missed
the foul shot. With 1:27 on the clock Clay was
fouled again and made 1 of 2, Smith hit for 2 on the
other end and with 30 seconds left Clay was fouled
and made both, Perrysburg had 4 tries in the last
seconds but came up empty handed to end the game
Perrysburg up 24-12.
