Rossford girls program does not have
a freshman team this year so the freshmen girls were
fortunate to find Central catholic (CC) as a
replacement. Before the season started the girls
scrimmage CC and came out on top of the 5 quarters.
The Jackets started out in a full court man to man
defense against CC’s ¾ court man to man defense.
Smith got the tip the girls set up the offense ran
it well as Scheckelhoff was fouled and made 1 of 2.
CC answered with 2 and then each team exchanged a
couple of possessions. With 2:30 left in the quarter
CC hit for another 2 and Whitacre picked up her
second foul, CC set up their offense was fouled and
made 1 of 2. At the 1:30 mark Dunphy got a high
rebound drove the basket was fouled and made 1 of 2.
With 50 seconds left Poll hit for 2 off a Buehler
pass to end the quarter Perrysburg 4 CC 5
The second quarter started with both teams going
back and forth till the 4:15 mark where CC scored 2,
Perrysburg turned it over and CC scored again. At
3:00 Smith scored on a turnaround jumper and CC
responded with 2. At the 2:00 minute mark CC hit a
15 footer and Poll responded with a 15 footer at the
other end. From here Perrysburg had a couple of
missed shots and CC scored a couple foul shots to
end the half CC 13 Perrysburg 8
The CC girls showed more speed and composure then
what was seen in the earlier scrimmage. The jacket
girls were getting frustrated because the CC girls
seemed to be everywhere, applying pressure to the
ball and cutting off the passing lanes, just playing
a little quicker defense than the jacket girls have
seen this year.
The jackets started out the second half in a half
court man to man half defense against CC’s full
court man to man defense. CC started out with a
quick 2, Perrysburg set up the offense and was
worked it long enough for Scheckelhoff to get open
off a pick for 2. Both teams exchanged possessions
till the 3:20 mark where Buehler was fouled and made
1 of 2, Perrysburg got a steal but turned it back
over for CC to hit for 2. CC got a steal had a
broken play but still scored. With 2:20 left CC was
fouled and missed both. Perrysburg came down ran the
offense and Buehler hit a 16 footer for 2. At 1:00
smith was fouled and made 1 of 2, then at :30
Scheckelhoff was fouled and made 1 of 2 to end the
quarter down 21-14.
The fourth quarter Perrysburg went into a 2-3 zone
and CC remained in their full court man to man
pressure. Perrysburg fought hard to try and make a
comeback but the CC pressure was just too much for
the lady jackets thus the girls suffered their first
loss 30-21
