Perrysburg’s winning streak extends
to seven games with a hard fought 19-17 victory over
the pesky Northview Wildcats. The game was filled
with a lot of turnovers and didn’t provide either
team a chance to get settled. Based upon the start
of the game, Perrysburg quickly scored two baskets
making it 4-0 and one would think that the girls
were going to have an easy time of it however; no
more offense could be mustered as the quarter ended
4-0.
The second quarter showed signs of
promise with good ball movement providing open looks
at the basket but points were hard to come by for
the Jackets. The girls turned their energy up and
played strong defense not allowing many easy shots
and at the half, Perrysburg was leading 8-6. The
second half provided a lot of excitement for the
players and parents.
The fourth quarter started with
the scored tied at 11. Perrysburg remained calm and
methodically worked the ball around and was able to
connect on a couple of baskets. Late in the game
with Perrysburg clinging to a three point lead 17-14
with under a minute remaining, Northview ran a nice
screen play off of Perrysburg’s zone defense
allowing for their guard to drain a three pointer
from the wing tying up the score at 17 apiece. That
basket ignited the Northview crowd, creating a lot
of noise and enthusiasm. Perrysburg inbounded the
ball and was able to get a nice entry pass into
Lindsay Smith working hard on the block. She was
fouled on her shot attempt with 25 seconds to play
and calmly sank both free throws for a two point
margin. Northview subsequently traveled after they
inbounded the ball and Perrysburg held on for a hard
fought victory 19-17.
Sad news – Sidney Scheckelhoff suffered a
season-ending torn ACL during the contest.
Next game is scheduled for this Thursday January
21st against Maumee with another contest on Saturday
the 23rd at Notre Dame. |
