Perrysburg, coming
off of a four game winning streak continued on their
winning ways with an impressive 33-20 victory last
Saturday at Otsego. As like many starts to the game,
Lindsay Smith won the tip and the ball was grabbed
by Sidney Scheckelhoff who raced to the basket for
an easy layup, giving the girls a quick 2-0 lead.
Perrysburg utilized
their quickness and pressed the Knights for the
majority of the first quarter. This created many
turnovers and steals resulting in easy baskets.
Otsego opted to do the same but Perrysburg
controlled the press and Katie Dunphy dribbled
through the defense and made a nice pass to Lindsay
Smith for an easy lay in. The next possession,
Sidney Scheckelhoff stole an errand pass at half
court, passed to a streaking Mollie Whitacre for a
nice layup giving Perrysburg a 6-5 lead at the end
of the first quarter. Mollie Whitacre started the
scoring off in the second quarter with a nice jump
shot to give Perrysburg a 8-5 lead. Constant
pressure and nice offensive patience and execution
allowed Perrysburg to extend the lead on baskets by
Katie Dunphy, Lindsay Smith, Chloe Buehler and Maddy
Perry for a 15-7 halftime lead.
For the start of the
third quarter, Perrysburg continued to press and
play a very aggressive man-to-man defense creating
transition baskets. Sidney Scheckelhoff made a nice
pass to a cutting Lindsay Smith to start the
scoring. More precision passing on the offensive end
with Chloe Buehler receiving a pass at the elbow and
sinking the jumper to extend the Jackets lead to
19-9. Even with Otsego having the height advantage,
Perrysburg pounded the offensive glass. Katie Dunphy
grabbed an offensive rebound and was hammered under
the basket making both free throws. Maddy Perry got
open on the block for a nice turn around shot from
the baseline followed by a jumper from Mollie
Whitacre. Perrysburg continued to work the ball down
low as Shelby Lahey grabbed another offensive
rebound and found a wide open Amanda Poll for a
baseline jumper making the score 25-9 after three
quarters.
Perrysburg finished
the fourth quarter on a high note with baskets from
Amanda Poll, Sidney Scheckelhoff, Katie Dunphy and
Maddy Perry for a solid 33-20 victory. The Freshmen
girls will take their show on the road for their
next contest against Bowsher. Good Luck!!
